Demokriteia Festival Abdera (Avdira)
The Demokriteia Festival is the most important cultural event of the Municipality of Abdera. Organized every summer, it honors Democritus, the famous ancient Greek philosopher who was born in Abdera.
The festival includes concerts, traditional music nights, theatrical performances, cultural activities, and local celebrations across the villages of the municipality. Many of the main events take place around July 25–26, during the celebration of Saint Paraskevi, the patron saint of Abdera.

August Full Moon at the Archaeological Site of Abdera (AVDIRA)
Every August, the Archaeological Site of Ancient Abdera opens its gates for special evening events during the August Full Moon. Visitors can explore the ancient ruins under the moonlight while enjoying cultural performances such as concerts, poetry readings, or theatrical presentations.
The event combines history, culture, and atmosphere, offering a unique opportunity to experience the ancient city where philosophers like Democritus and Protagoras once lived.

Xanthi Old Town Festival
The Xanthi Old Town Festival is one of the most famous cultural festivals in Northern Greece. It takes place every September in the picturesque Old Town of Xanthi, transforming the historic district into a vibrant cultural hub.
Visitors can enjoy concerts, street performances, exhibitions, traditional music, food stands, and artistic events throughout the narrow streets and squares of the old city. The festival attracts thousands of visitors every year and celebrates the multicultural identity of Xanthi.

Easter in Avdira: A Journey into Tradition
Easter in Avdira is celebrated with deep religious devotion and local traditions. The Holy Week includes church services, candlelit processions, and the Resurrection celebration on Holy Saturday night.
Visitors can experience authentic Greek Easter customs, traditional food, and community celebrations that bring together residents and guests in the historic town of Avdira.

Xanthi Carnival (Thracian Folk Festival)
The Xanthi Carnival is the largest carnival celebration in Northern Greece and one of the biggest cultural events in the country. Established in 1966, it combines traditional Thracian customs with modern carnival festivities.
The festival includes parades, concerts, cultural performances, and the famous Grand Carnival Parade, attracting thousands of visitors from across Greece and abroad.
